I’m on a mission to get people reconnected to nature. Together with European funders, I support non-profits that support oceanic science and research, beach cleanups, and connection of people to the ocean.

Organisations I support for change…

SeaChange

After the SeaChange team had everyone in awe with Oscar-winning movie “My Octopus Teacher”, it became evident that there is still a lot unknown about the life of octopuses. We support scientists that research the secretive lives of octopuses at the Cape peninsula.

Sentinel Ocean Alliance

Sentinel Ocean Alliance was founded by Big Wave Surfer Frank Solomon to connect South Africa’s coastal communities to the ocean. Together with partner Parley they build cool containers to provide surf, lifesaving, swimming opportunities to kids.

Oceano Reddentes

For several years, the mother-daughter power team Nina and Jade Bothma have organised beach cleanups in Cape Town. We recently supported the development of a database that tracks the collection of trash during beach cleanups in Cape Town

9 Miles Project

Nigel is a one-of-a-kind man with a big heart for the ocean. Together with his team he runs 9Miles Project - a non-profit in Strandfontein. Using surfing as a drawcard and catalyst for transformation and empowerment, the project provides safe spaces and structured afterschool programmes for at-risk children and youth in vulnerable and impoverished communities. It also offers mentorship, job creation, skills development, and holistic support to vulnerable youth and their families. Surfing is used as a form of therapy and encourages healthy lifestyles & positive coping mechanisms. It also instills a love and respect for the ocean.
